Food for a rainy Sunday morning … I fueled up today on this tasty omelette stuffed with spinach, heirloom tomatoes and a cheese blend of asiago, Romano, and Parmesan chees. I made it through the national section when I looked at the time … almost 9:30./There are two dogs to walk and then an ~20 mile ride planned.
The paper can be read later, but the pups and the ride need to be taken care before the day goes full swing, and the weather turns again to rain. So off I went with the dogs and before too long returned to switch pups for my Trek Madone.
The weather forecast changes minute to minute now. It is everyday for the last two weeks with possibly one exception that it has rained. The changing forecast has more to do with the hour than the fact that it will rain.
Which is why I was expecting to be riding under cloudy skies, an earlier forecast had said as much.
When I pushed the bike out of the basement, rain was starting to fall, and it was chillier than I’d expected. With the pattern being cool and rainy, I had a pair of lightweight gloves in my bag, which I was glad of, not more than fifteen minutes into the ride. I did not have with me my heavy duty rainwear, but a water repellent shell with a liner and I was layered lightly underneath with a cycling Jersey atop a thin champion long sleeved top. This kept me comfortable the entire ride without overheating.
The rain became heaviest and steadiest in the middle third of the ride, eventually giving way to light drizzle. I am so happy that I did not scare off at the cool or the drizzle. I’ve renewed my commitment to being the best I can be. Taking each step and remembering the importance of setting and achieving a goal or objective gives me great satisfaction. When the ease with which I stay on track is challenged, it is good to know there is a reservoir or determination and joy for doing a thing worthwhile.
